Why blogs? and etc: A list.

I've been reading a lot of blogs lately, what with the time I have on my hands these days (aka I really should be doing things that I have been avoiding since March). In addition I've just been checking out a lot of websites.

I'm 22 now, and I believe for the past 10 years I've been honestly open to so many experiences and subjects. I've listened to them, I've read them, I've considered them. I would waver back and forth on where I stand (i.e. I seriously convinced myself to vote for Bush in 2004--just because he prays a lot. Naive eh? And before that I was a loyal Democrat that came from a family of DFLers). Sometimes I thought it was crazy to have to choose, lol (even though I'm a groupie of choosing to not choose???).

However, this summer I have really been paying attention to specific artists, blogs, people, etc--passions of mine. They aren't necessarily some huge things that people would consider as passions/passionate, but they are such small detailed things that catch my mind and I pretty much devour and indulge in it. I've finally decided to hone in on what I really like (took me almost a decade to do so lol)--and this means saying no to other things and finally choosing what I want to do/listen to/read/etc. I think I'm starting to come to a place where I can finally be/say: this is me. (I'll write a blog later or eventually or in the future on how I am still indecisive and open though lol.)

So! I wanted to share with you all some things that I have seriously spent way too much time doing. No one probably reads these things. oh well. Haha. But I love to express myself and blogging/journaling is my medium of expression.

If you're too tired of reading my ramblings, just skip to the list. But I would like to tell you all why I am OBSESSED with blogs + etc:

I simply LOVE reading blogs because it practically is like candy to me. My eyes become googley-eyed because I am given the treat and privilege of reading someone's words. Blogged words are chosen carefully, at least more carefully than just random jibber-jabber; you have to be more accountable to blogged/written words because not only are you saying it, but youre writing it and publishing it for the world to see. What you write represents you. Your words embodies you--take it or leave it. When someone reads it, no one is going to take an additional 2 minutes to ask you what you meant. Or you're just not available to answer them and the curiosity disappears as soon as it comes and no one bothers to go deeper. So what they read from you will always be your verdict.

This is probably the reason why I will listen to albums for weeks. I hate cds/playlists that have only hit songs on them. I love to listen to an artist's entire album, without having the option of changing the album/artist simply because I know that the artist has something to say in each of his songs!!! And as a whole, all the songs are around a theme or something. They are showing your their world and they deserve that respect. Now mind you I enjoy listening to playlists too, but only if they are carefully chosen. But albums have a theme and I LOVE listening to them. It is a story. If I only get to listen to one song on the album, I am only getting a tiny slice of the entire cake. I want to listen to their verdict.

The reason why art/blogs/albums are like candy to me is probably because I'm a freak, or maybe it's the anthropologist inside of me, lol. I'm hoping it's the latter because some people may think I'm a stalker or something. Lol, let me explain. I love being exposed to people's work, like the words they write in a blog because I feel like their world is being revealed to me. I indulge in it because I love exploring other worlds and seeing what they see. I have such an appreciation and obsession with what they have to offer because we are all different. We all tell different stories. So when I see blogs and etc, it's like their own cultural story that they want to reveal to the world. I drink it up and contemplate what they say for days.

In essence, I feel that blogging is another form of art. Spoken word is carefully done. Music, poetry, writing, etc etc too. And I love art. When I get to see someone's genuine work it is candy to me because it represents the deepest things they care about/value. It represents them, what makes them up. That's why I love to read blogs.
